Reminders:
  1. A new online missed rehearsal form is on the website under the members tab.
  2. Graduation Day for the Class of 2017 is on Sunday, June 11, at 4 PM at the Raleigh Convention Center.  All band members perform, so please add to your calendar.  Graduation rehearsal for seniors ONLY, is on Monday, June 5, from 6-8 pm.
  3. Disney Intent and $100 deposit is due on Friday, September 16.
  4. GHR third fair share payments were due on September 2.  Everyone should only have a $100 balance on their account.  Remember, your account must be current in order for you to participate in the September 30 performance.  Please contact Ms. Scott or Ms. Sabatelli, if you need financial assistance.
  5. For those attending the NC State Band Day, on September 17, please let Mr. B know by Monday (google doc.), so that we can insure your uniform will be ready for pick-up.

These were checked today, and those who had them received a bonus 5 points for homework.  Tomorrow it becomes a 0 for those who still do not have them.

This weekend was wonderful wasn’t it?  Fall is my favorite season, so the return to the heat isn’t exciting, but it won’t be long now until those nice crisp temperatures fill my room everyday.

Day 5

If you forgot your instruments, please have them on Tuesday.  Also have your binder with paper, staff paper, and pencils.  Folders were issued today.

There is NO Band Booster General Meeting for September, as we have Open House on September 13.  There will be a meeting/informance in October and a Holiday Gathering in December.

The website continues to be tweaked.  Please check back often for updates.
HSHS Fine Arts Department Announced – Our musical this year is Phantom of the Opera
Auditions for an acting role are October 24 & 25 – more details on this coming.  The orchestra will consist of the top chairs in the Wind Ensemble.  We need many string players.  The show is at the end of February, 2017.

 

Concert Band – 1st
Used the number system for our attendance for the first time.  Began our Breathing Gym exercises.  Continued assigning instrument storage units and instruments.  Demonstrated posture, and correct playing positions for instruments.  Assigned folders.

Symphonic Band-2nd
Used the number system for our attendance for the first time.  Began our Breathing Gym exercises.  Continued assigning instrument storage units and instruments.  Demonstrated posture, and correct playing positions for instruments.  Assigned folders.

Wind Ensemble/Marching Percussion – 4th
Used the number system for our attendance for the first time.  Began our Breathing Gym exercises.  Played p. 10 in the Symphonic Technique Books.  Percussion joined us as it was raining outside.  Continued assigning instrument storage units and instruments.  Demonstrated posture, and correct playing positions for instruments.  Assigned folders.  Listened to recordings of American Salute and Molly on the Shore.  Passed out music for these selections so that members could prepare over the weekend.

Winter Guards place at AIA Championships

Congratulations to our Winter Guard teams who completed their 2016 season at the Atlantic Indoor Association NC Championships at Dorton Arena on Saturday.  The Junior Hawks earned a 5th place finish in the middle school division.  The Lil Hawks captured the GOLD medal for the third straight year.  Our Hawks won the Bronze medal in the A3 class.

  • Stay tuned…are you tuned in???, ….no, ReallY tuned in…..Going on a trip in 2016-2017. Don’t know where, but it will be somewhere over the rainbow, well close to it…..Reveal at April annual meeting.
  • Knee deep in scheduling for 2016-2017. Seniors you can zone out for a minute…Seriously, you have Mr. B’s permissionJ  Remember, that you should have a band class each semester.  One semester is granted only to juniors and seniors, and MUST involve a conversation with Mr. B.  In most cases, participation in marching band on your respective instrument is the solution, however, ONLY after exhausting other possibilities.  Do not assume membership in our advanced ensembles will be granted for one semester participation only.  In 95% of the cases, scheduling conflicts can be resolved with a conversation and a plan.  Recommendations have been posted in powerschools based on your progress this year.  Final placements will be determined following auditions in April.  Audition solos have been released today.  Percussion, yours are coming.
  • Band Booster Meeting on Tuesday, March 15, at 7 PM. The Symphonic Band will perform.
  • Rehearsal Days this week – Awesome Cinderella rehearsal yesterday. I believe that we will win, and finish the book today….Woo hoo, party dance time…. No rehearsal during tomorrow’s lunch, but yes for Friday.  Tomorrow’s rehearsal is from 2:30-4:00.
  • Wind Ensemble woodwind sectional is today during lunch.
  • Friday night, is a BIG night for our band program. We are hosting the Triangle Wind Ensemble and the Fuquay-Varina Wind Ensemble.  We need stage crew folks, and some percussion folks to help with equipment.  Tri-M hours available, and bring your sheets from last week to Mr. B to sign off.   Four to five will probably work.  See Patrick Fazekas to sign up.  Arrival time will probably be around 6 PM.  To be confirmed later today.
  • Winter Guard performs Saturday at Wakefield HS, at 3:30 pm. Come out and support your Hawks.
  • Winter Guard is hosting our first annual Guard Expo on Tuesday, March 22. A spaghetti dinner will be the food of choice, then you will be able to see the Lil’ Hawks, Junior Hawks, and Hawks.  $10 for the dinner and show, $5 for show only.
  • Is our journal being kept up to date? B doesn’t see any entries from any of our ensembles for this semester.  We are displaying this at the 10th anniversary concert, so let’s make sure is staying updated.  We need a journalist for the Concert Band.  Many thanks….
  • Lastly, Congratulations to Troy Vulpis and Kayla Roche. Both have been selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts this summer.  Troy for instrumental music, and Kayla for Visual Art.  Three from dance, and three from chorus were also selected.  Go HAWKS!!!!!
